Unfortunately, the Village cannot accommodate those who require assisted living.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Hornby Island Housing Society has recently updated its eligibility requirements.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Before you begin to fill out the application form, please review the criteria listed below. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility Criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An eligible applicant will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Senior: 55 years or older (If applying as a couple, one of the two must be 55 years or older.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Able to live independently with the help available to you within the community.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">i.e. capable of self-care\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Resident of Canada for more than 1 year<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Below the threshold for income and assets: <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Assets that are\u00a0<b>included<\/b>\u00a0for valuation in the $100,000 limit are:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Stocks, bonds, term deposits, mutual funds and cash.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Real estate equity, net of debt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Business equity in a private incorporated company including cash, GICs, bonds, stocks or real estate equity.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Assets that are\u00a0<b>excluded<\/b>\u00a0from valuation include:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Personal effects such as vehicles, jewellery and furniture<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">&#8211; Registered Retirement Saving Plans (RRSPs), and Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSPs.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; Assets derived from compensatory packages from government, for example Indian Residential School Settlements and Japanese Canadian Redress.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at <a href=\"mailto:hornbyislandhousing@gmail.com\"><span class=\"s2\">hornbyislandhousing@gmail.com<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h5>Learn More<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hornbyhousing.org\/elder-village\/available-units\/\">Available Units<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hornbyhousing.org\/elder-village\/faq\/\">Frequently Asked Questions<br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/hornbyhousing.org\/elder-village\/faq\/\"><br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/hornbyhousing.org\/elder-village\/about\/\">About the Village<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Village is designed for Independent Living.\u00a0 We have welcomed applications from a wide range of individuals over the years.
